Frequently Asked Questions
How are the cards randomized?
Every card is built from a pool of 45 possible items. When a card is generated, 24 of those items are shuffled and dropped into random positions on the 5x5 grid, with a FREE square fixed in the center. Because both the selection and the layout are randomized, it's extremely unlikely that any two players end up with the same card.
Does my progress save automatically?
Yes. As you mark squares, your card and progress are saved to your browser's localStorage. If you close the tab and come back later, your card and marked squares will still be there — as long as you're on the same device and browser and haven't cleared your browser data.
Does it work offline?
Mostly. Once the page has loaded, the game runs entirely in your browser, so you can keep marking squares without an internet connection. You do need a connection for the initial page load, so open the page before you lose signal if you're heading somewhere remote.
What's the difference between Lines and Blackout mode?
Lines is the default: get any row, column, or diagonal filled in and you win. Blackout raises the bar — you have to mark every square on the card except FREE before it counts as a win. Both use the same toggle in the header, and switching between them mid-game doesn't erase anything you've already marked.
Can multiple people play on the same device?
Each card and its progress are tied to the browser they were generated in, so two players sharing one device would end up fighting over the same card. Each player needs their own device — phone, tablet, or otherwise — to get their own independent, randomized card.
How do I get a new card?
Tap "New Card" in the header. A confirmation dialog will appear since this clears your current progress and generates a fresh, randomly shuffled card — confirm to continue, or cancel to keep playing your current one.
Is this game free?
Yes, completely free. No sign-up, no subscription, no premium tier. The site is supported by ads, which help keep it free for everyone.
The page looks broken or the game isn't loading. What should I do?
The game requires JavaScript to be enabled in your browser. Make sure JavaScript is turned on, then try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows, Cmd+Shift+R on Mac). If the problem persists, try a different browser. Still not working? Email us at [email protected].
