Open farmland and highway medians with utility poles are common perching spots — scan the tops of poles as you pass.

Fun Fact

Red-tailed hawks are so commonly used in movies and TV for their distinctive screech that nearly every "eagle cry" you've ever heard in a film is actually a red-tailed hawk dubbed in.
